The period covered by this lecture extends from the independence granted by France (1953) to the elections organized under the aegis of the United Nations Provisional Authority for Cambodia (1993).
40 years in which the immense hope that Prince Sihanouk's regime would arouse will be followed by the civil war and the horrors perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge regime. This lecture goes beyond a simple linear account of events. It will combine events with an understanding of the motivation behind them.
